Elijah Fidder is an Academic Year 2023-2024 undergraduate FLAS fellow studying Portuguese. Elijah is pursuing a major in Political Science, International Studies (International Relations and Diplomacy), with a minor in Portuguese. 

"I am studying Portuguese because after studying Spanish in High School I found that I enjoy learning new languages and new cultures.  Because of that, I spoke with my academic advisor about learning a new language and she recommended that I learn a critical language as described by the United States State Department.  I saw that Portuguese was one of the languages and I decided to take a leap and try it out and it has been a very rewarding journey since then!

I hope to eventually work in the US State Department as a diplomat.  I want to continue learning about other cultures and learning new languages.  That’s why I hope to always embrace new cultural experiences in whatever career path I may choose!"
