The Center for Latin American Studies would like to congratulate Devin Grammon on receiving a 2016 Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad award, which he will use to conduct 12 months of dissertation research in Cusco, Peru. During this time, Devin will investigate the social and cultural patterning of (second) language features in contexts of global education in Cusco, especially as they relate to second language learning, speakers’ beliefs and feelings about language, and their participation within speech communities.

Devin Grammon is a Ph.D. candidate in the Hispanic Linguistics program. His academic interests include sociocultural linguistics and second language studies as well as Andean languages and cultures. Devin’s research primarily draws on ethnographic data from educational settings in central Ohio and Cusco, Peru, in addition to quantitative analyses of spoken Spanish from South America.

If you'd like to learn more about Devin's research, please join us as he delivers a talk on "Language Learning and Volunteer Tourism in Cusco, Peru" on December 3rd at the Humanities Institute Knight House, 104 E 15th Ave. For more information, please visit: http://clas.osu.edu/events/language-learning-and-volunteer-tourism-cusco-peru
