ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - LATIN AMERICAN, CARIBBEAN, AND U.S. LATINO STUDIES

Job Description:

The assistant professor will be actively engaged in interdisciplinary research that examines the impact of structural forces on the socio-economic and political development of Latin America, including how transnationalism and globalization have restructured hemispheric relations. The assistant professor will be required to teach four courses annually and maintain an active research program. The teaching assignment in the first appointment year will consist of three undergraduate courses, including an introductory level course on Latin America and a graduate course, specifically LCS 502 Theoretical Approaches to Latin America. In subsequent years, the assistant professor may be required to teach a second graduate course, as well as two undergraduate courses. As is expected of all faculty in a research university, the assistant professor will maintain a robust research profile, including publications and presentations on peer reviewed panels in the conferences of nationally and internationally recognized professional associations.

Requirements:

A Ph.D. in a social sciences field (political science, economics, anthropology, sociology and cognate fields, including American Studies and Latin American Studies) from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization is required. Although publications in peer reviewed journals or the publication by a university press or academic commercial publisher or a book length manuscript is not required, applicants with these credentials are preferred.

The successful candidate will have sustained an active research profile and show promise of developing an outstanding publication record. Grants, fellowships and academic awards, in addition to publications, are evidence of promise.

In addition, the candidate must demonstrate commitment to undergraduate education and address their experience in teaching a cultural diverse student population.
