The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) is working with the Department of Spanish and Portuguese to provide graduate coursework that is targeted to the needs and practices of K-12 teachers. Spring 2020

SPANISH 6194: Spanish Phonetics for Teachers, online

​This is a comprehensive study of the sound system of Spanish, as well as preparation for, and practice in, the teaching of pronunciation. The course covers the principles of orthography, articulatory descriptions of sounds, phonetic transcription, phonological analysis, contrasts with English, issues in L2 phonological research, and best practices in the teaching of Spanish pronunciation to English speakers.

Quechua 5501: Introduction to Quechua, online

Beginning language course for students with no previous study experience in Quechua. This course will be comprehensive, integrating culture and language from the southern Quechua family.

Portuguese 1101: Introduction to Portuguese, online

Beginning language course for students with no previous study experience in Portuguese. This course will be comprehensive, integrating culture and language from Brazilian Portuguese.
