Current Buckeyes: Summer Internship Experiences in Brazil

This summer, two current Ohio State undergraduate students gained valuable international internship experience in Brazil, applying their academic interests in professional engineering environments and learning more about the work of global organizations.

  • Anne Karolina Ferreira De Souza Pinto

"This summer, I had the opportunity to intern in the Sensor and Radar Services department at Saab, a big Swedish defense company, at the site located in Brazil. As a first-year student, I honestly ended up learning way more than I expected to. I could see the routines of engineers and managers, and I saw that it was not only about the technical radar work. I realized how much else goes into making a project like that actually happen. Working alongside people from so many areas and nationalities really opened my eyes to what engineering and the defense field look like inside a global organization."

  • Thiago Queiroz de Azevedo

"Over the summer, I interned with Embraer’s Commercial Aviation Fly-by-Wire team. My project focused on developing an API to connect Embraer’s internal flight-data visualization software with a flight-control simulation model, supporting work related to Eve Air Mobility’s prototype and its flight-test campaign. Beyond my individual project, I had the opportunity to experience engineering at a much broader level by observing simulator flight-test sessions, attending product integration meetings across different engineering teams, and participating in events that exposed summer interns to different areas of the company. This opportunity was also a dream come true for me. The experience gave me a new perspective on how the concepts I study at Ohio State translate into real engineering decisions and contribute to the development of an aircraft".
