With a richly textured layering of subtle emotions and beautiful visuals, The Silver Cliff follows 24 hours in the life of a woman whose husband has just left her. After missing a flight to meet up with him, she finds herself alone in Rio overnight and tries to reconcile her newfound perspective on life. Through exquisitely impressionistic filmmaking, the movie tracks every nuanced development in her inner life as she moves through sadness, liberation, and other more ambiguous emotions. The film is based on “Eye to Eye,” a beautiful song about love, forgiveness, and resilience by the legendary singer-songwriter Chico Buarque. (83 mins., DCP)
