School of Environment and Natural Resources: Autumn 2013 SENR Seminar Series

Ohio State welcomes Dr. Cornelia Butler Flora of Iowa State University.
October 3, 2013
4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
103 Kottman Hall / 275 W Woodruff Ave, Columbus, OH 43210

The SENR Seminar Series welcomes Dr. Cornelia Butler Flora, Distinguished Professor, Iowa State University Department of Sociology, who will present Building Community Resilience to Climate Change: Testing the Adaptation Coalition Framework in Latin America.

Dr. Flora will present the findings from a five-country case study that tested the application of the Adaptation Coalition Framework (ACF) in Latin America and the Caribbean. The ACF is intended to address climate change challenges that many climate change adaptation models and sustainable development frameworks do not completely address. Application of the ACF included four perspectives required to effectively build social resilience to climate change. These perspectives emphasize the need for climate change planning to be context specific and locally driven; consideration of long term time scales; development of a flexible framework to predict and prepare for change; and precautionary measures that go beyond mere adaptation to climate impacts.
