In this presentation, Dr. Carvalho looks at towns on the Uruguayan-Brazilian border and the characteristics and sociolinguistic facets of the Spanish and Portuguese usage in the population. She argues against the monolectal view, that rather than forming a single Spanish-Portuguese hybrid language, that the languages are in a state of diglossia, influenced by each other, but still distinct.
