About the artists

Erin Malley

Erin Malley

Erin Malley began studying tango to complement her extensive training in contemporary dance and classical ballet, and broaden her skills as a professional choreographer. Prior to her life in tango, she received her BFA in Dance and French from Western Michigan University (magna cum laude), studying a range of dance styles, history, music, pedagogy, choreography and production. Erin has also performed professionally in dance and theatre productions in NYC and San Francisco.

She considers Gustavo Naveira y Giselle Anne as her primary teachers and influences for the duration of her tango career. She has also been greatly influenced in workshops she has taken with Ariadna Naveira y Fernando Sanchez, Federico Naveira y Sabrina Masso, and Carolina el Rivero. Early on, she studied tango in New York with Metin Yazir, Jak Karako, Maria Jose and Vanessa Gauch.

Erin has danced and taught extensively on both coasts of the US and in Europe.  An experienced leader and follower, Erin uses her thorough knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics to create and teach beautiful and seemingly effortless tango. She has an extensive background teaching Pilates around the country, which gives her a unique and beneficial lens on the mechanics of tango.

Erin is part of the coordinating council for Tango for the People, an evolving project seeking to provide support to tango organizers and teachers in crafting events that further the work of racial equity and radical belonging.

Erin is also a dance film & video artist. She has been creating work in this genre since 2013, her work reaching all corners of the globe. Prior to this, Erin was a professional choreographer in dance and theater in NYC beginning in 2004. She was the founder and artistic director of Malleable Dance Theater.
