Nosotras: Entre arañas y telas revolves around the discrimination against Latinas in academia. This volume is part of a trilogy comprised of Nosotras: Como siempre (1984) and Nosotras: Otra vez (2001). (See also Nosotras: Todavía (2018), a second edition of the two previous books together).
About the Author
Dr. Aracelis Nieves Maysonet is a lecturer of Spanish for Heritage Speakers in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. She has been included as one of the ten best Puerto Rican women writers in the anthology Del silencio al estallido: Narrativa femenina puertorriqueña (1991). She has published three short story books: Nosotras: Como siempre (1984), Nosotras: Otra vez (2001), and Nosotras: Entre arañas y telas (2022). In her stories, Nieves denounces the social problems and the discrimination suffered by women, particularly Latinas. Her stories and essays have been published in magazines such as: Revista Didasko, Camino Real, Mujeres con Visión, Zoom Latino, Contornos, Renacimiento, Anales, Creación, Calibán, and in En Rojo from the Semanario Claridad. Likewise, her work has been included in textbooks such as: Lenguaje y comunicación 10 from Editorial Santillana, and in anthologies such as: Antologías del Congreso Mundial de las Letras Hispanas (2022, 2018) and Antología Congreso Mujer Girasol (2018). Her micro-stories La casi señora del Castillo and ¿Mujer o Mantis? were finalists in the Segundo Certamen Nacional de Microcuentos José Luis González in 2019. In 2018, her short story entitled Una noche del 23 was a finalist in the literary contest Cuéntale Tu Cuento a Nota Latina, and it was published in the anthology Cuentos que son una nota. In addition, her literary career has been acknowledged by the Asociación Internacional de Escritores y Artistas del Orbe de Perú, Asociación Internacional de Poetas y Escritores Hispanos (AIPEH), among others.
Nieves holds a PhD in Curriculum Theory and Language Education from Indiana University, Bloomington, an MA in Hispanic Studies, and a BA in Secondary Education/Spanish from the University of Puerto Rico.
