Abstract

Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina founded in 1580, experienced unprecedented growth at the end of the 19th century. By 1913, Argentina’s economic expansion and modernization had propelled it into the ranks of the 10 wealthiest countries in the world. This was reflected in the development of a rich cultural life and the creation of art institutions that have shaped the city and the country since. The presentation will focus on the  Asociación del Profesorado Orquestral [Association of the Orchestral Academy] (APO) created in the late 19th century as an example of such an institution.
