Call For Papers: The 2nd Pre‐modernist Graduate Conference at OSU
Call For Papers:
The 2nd Pre‐modernist Graduate Conference at OSU
Sponsors: The Pre‐modernist Group Workshop; Department of History
The interdisciplinary Pre-modernist Group Workshop, housed in the History Department, brings together faculty and graduate students from various departments and programs across OSU campus whose research interests focus or touch on premodern contexts. On April 24 (Fri), 2015 we will hold the second Pre-modernist Graduate Conference for graduate students whose research interests concern the premodern periods (roughly pre-1800). We also welcome papers that explore the relationship between the “pre-modern” (or “non-modern”) and the “modern.” We invite graduate students in all departments and programs to present their research at this conference. In the past we had presenters from History, Classics, East Asian Languages and Literatures, and the English department. We hope to offer a forum where the graduate students will not only get useful feedback from faculty of various departments but also engage in cross-disciplinary conversations amongst themselves. We expect the presenters, commentators, and audience to engage in a lively conversation about topics, concepts, theories, methodologies, and frameworks that premodernist scholars have explored, problematized, or complicated. We will select 6 presenters this year. The presentations and discussion will take place in the afternoon of April 24. Please send queries or submit an abstract (150 words) by March 15, 2015 via email to Prof. Ying Zhang (zhang.1889@osu.edu; email subject: “Premod Grad Conf proposal”). Notifications of acceptance and conference program will be sent out around March 25.
