This lecture is the fourteenth installment of the Afro-Brazilian Arts and Activism Lecture Series by CLAS. The event is FREE and open to the public! Guilhermo Aderaldo has a doctorate in Anthropology from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and currently serves as a post-doc researcher and professor in the post-graduate program in anthropology at the Universidade Federal de Pelotas (PPGANT/UFPEL). In recent years, he has dedicated himself to researching the relation between contemporary forms of collective action and disputes around the interpretation of urban inequality. He is the author of the book “Re-inventing the City: An Ethnography of the Symbolic Struggles between Video-Activist Cultural Collectives in the ‘Peripheries’ of Sao Paulo” (Reinventando a cidade: uma etnografia das lutas simbólicas entre coletivos culturais vídeo-ativistas nas 'periferias' de São Paulo) (Annablume, FAPESP, 2017) as well as one of the organizers of the book: “Practices, Conflicts, Spaces: Research on the Anthropology of the City” (Práticas, conflitos, espaços: pesquisas em antropologia da cidade) (Gramma/FAPESP, 2019). Aderaldo is also a member of the GEEUR (Research Group on Urban Ethnographies), the LEPPAIS (Anthropology of Image and Sound Laboratory for Teaching, Research and Production), as well as the research group MTTM (Mobilities, Theories, Themes and Methods). -- Guilhermo Aderaldo é doutor em Antropologia, pela Universidade de São Paulo (USP) e, atualmente, é pesquisador (em pós-doutorado) e professor do Programa de Pós Graduação em Antropologia da Universidade Federal de Pelotas (Ppgant/Ufpel). Nos últimos anos, tem se dedicado a pesquisar a relação entre formas contemporâneas de ação coletiva e disputas em torno da interpretação da desigualdade urbana.
