The Center for Latin American Studies is committed to providing funding opportunities for affiliated CLAS faculty members as well as community college and minority-serving institution faculty and instructors. Funding is available from a variety of sources and for a variety of needs.

CLAS Faculty Travel Grants
CLAS is pleased to announce the availability of faculty travel grants to support professional development, sponsored by Title VI National Resource Center funding. Travel expenses for professional development related to Latin America (both domestic and international travel permissible) for travel commencing at least 45 days after the application date. Reimbursable expenses include airfare/mileage, ground transportation and parking, meals (per diem or receipts), and lodging. We cannot pay conference registration.

Community College/MSI Professional Development Grants
In an effort to expand the public’s knowledge and understanding of the region, CLAS invites grant applications from faculty and instructors at community colleges and minority-serving institutions (including the University of Puerto Rico) pursuing a wide array of scholarly endeavors related to the study of Latin America. This grant funding supports professional development opportunities.

CLAS Curriculum Development Grants
As part of its Title VI Comprehensive National Resource Center funding from the International and Foreign Language Education division of the U.S. Department of Education, the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) seeks proposals for Curriculum Development Grants, which are available to any Ohio State faculty and instructor who wishes to apply for funding to create new courses at Ohio State with an emphasis on Latin America or design curricular modules to be used as a resource for K12 students or for instructors at the K12 or community college level.

CLAS Faculty Research & Programming Grants
CLAS Faculty Research & Programming grants fund projects on Latin America and the Caribbean proposed by CLAS-affiliated faculty at The Ohio State University. Funds will support programming that enhances disciplinary expertise in the region, promotes interdisciplinary faculty engagement and research, and enriches Latin American knowledge and expertise on campus. The purpose is to permit faculty affiliates to apply directly to the CLAS director for funding on a rolling basis.

Area Studies Center Conference Grants: Request for Proposals
Funding will support a conference or a series of lectures that bring together area studies experts. To be eligible, the project must significantly address the regions of each Center contributing funding to this grant program. Accordingly, a minimum of 25% of the project should focus on Latin America, Russia/Eastern Europe, and East Asia respectively, for a minimum total of 75% of the content on these regions.

CLASP Faculty Research and Professional Development Grant
The Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs is proud to announce a new faculty research and professional development grant. The competitive grant, fully funded by CLASP, provides awards of up to $1000 to support professional advancement for faculty at CLASP member institutions. This new program is designed to provide faculty with additional support for enhanced teaching and expanded production of Latin American Studies scholarship.
CLASP postponed its Faculty Research/Professional Development Grant award announcements due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. CLASP will resume the competition and administer awards when travel restrictions are lifted.
