2024 Brutus Calavera Coloring Contest

The Center for Latin American Studies is excited to announce the third annual coloring contest for Día de los Muertos. This coloring contest, now open to children and adults of all ages, introduces the holiday of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, to those unfamiliar with it while striving to strengthen the relationship between Ohio State, Latin American, and Latinx culture.

This year, participants can submit their work for both the digital and printout competitions.

All submissions must be received by October 25, 2024 at 5 p.m.

Eligibility and rules

  • Children, teenagers, and adults of all ages are eligible to participate in this contest
  • There are five categories, divided by age:  8 and under; 9-11; 12-14; 15-17; 18+
  • Eligible materials: crayons, colored pencils, markers, paint. No gluing on of extra materials or embellishment will be allowed. Digital coloring is permitted.
  • Submissions will be judged based on the following criteria: visual impact, organization and execution, interpretation and creativity, and craftmanship
  • By entering the contest, the contestant allows Ohio State to repost the submissions. The first name and first initial of last name of winners may also be published.

Prizes

  • All winners will receive a $25 Amazon gift card. From the pool of winners, we will randomly draw names to receive tickets to the Ohio State Football game vs. Indiana (on November 23, 2024), tickets to the Men’s Basketball game vs. Green Bay (on November 25, 2024), family passes to the Columbus Museum of Art, and a gift card and painting from Brush Crazy – Columbus.
  • One winner will be selected from each category in the printout competition (5 printout winners, 10 winners total)

Print page three of the document below. Fill out contact information and color it. Then, drop off or mail submissions to Center for Latin American Studies, Office of International Affairs (140 Enarson Classroom Building; 2009 Millikin Rd; Columbus OH 43210).

For digital competition

Print page three of the document below and color it. You can also color it digitally. Fill out contact information. Then, upload your submission to Instagram or Twitter/X using the hashtag #BrutusCalavera. Your uploaded image must include the age category information.
