2024 Brutus Calavera Coloring Contest Winners Announced
Congratulations to our winners in the 2024 Brutus Calavera coloring contest: Ella, Avery, Leah, Patience, Maryann, Amber, Clara, Brianna, Jasmyn, Jose!!!
Over 200 children and adults throughout Ohio (and some from Kentucky!) submitted their entries to the contest and joined us in celebrating Day of the Dead.
Thank you so much to all the participants, our judges, and parents and educators who welcomed Brutus calavera into your homes and classrooms.
This coloring contest aimed to introduce the holiday of Día de los Muertos to those unfamiliar with it, and worked to strengthen the relationship between Ohio State and Latinx culture. Sherri Anderson, Art teacher at St. Timothy, shared that "The kids all enjoyed learning about the calavera and its significance to the Latin American community." Similarly, Maria Graciela Moser, EL teacher at Rutherford B. Hayes High School in Delaware, said "Activities like the Brutus contest are invaluable as they help us create spaces for dialogue and understanding among the various cultures that coexist in our EL group. These experiences help our students become more aware and foster greater appreciation and respect for both their own identity and that of others."
Prizes for this year included tickets to Ohio State football, Ohio State basketball, and the Columbus Museum of Art, and gift cards to Brush Crazy - Columbus and Amazon. Thank you to our partners for their generosity!
We’re looking forward to receiving your amazing submissions next year!
