The Eliana Rivero Research Scholarship in Cuban Studies

Call for Applications from Graduate Students

Deadline: February 15, 2016

The Cuban Research Institute (CRI) is pleased to announce the competition for the 2016 Eliana Rivero Research Scholarship on Cuban Studies and requests applications from graduate students for spring and early summer 2016. The scholarship provides one graduate student the opportunity to conduct research in Cuban Studies - with special emphasis in the humanities - at CRI. The scholarship can also be used to support the visit of one Florida International University (FIU) graduate student to Cuba, to pursue research on Cuba-related issues.

Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Eliana S. Rivero, Professor Emerita in Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Arizona, CRI is offering a scholarship of $2,000 to offset the costs of a one-week stay in Miami to conduct research on a Cuba-related topic or, for FIU graduate students only, a one week stay in Cuba for the same purpose. The funds can be used to cover the costs of travel, room and board, and other research-related expenses. The award recipient will be required to compelete his/her travel by June 15, 2016.

As a condition of the award, recipients will give a lecture at FIU on their research projects, and following their travel, will submit a three-page, single-spaced summary of their research findings, and a detailed budget including all relevant receipts.

To download the applicaiton form, please visit the Cuban Research Institute website: cri.fiu.edu and click the menu under "Extracurricular".

Non-FIU students are invited to apply. For more information, please call (305) 348-1991 or email cri@fiu.edu.
