CCWA Global Scholars Diploma: Call for Volunteers

CCWA logo

CCWA is looking for several global issues expert volunteers for each of the event dates listed below. If, after reading the volunteer requirements, you feel that you meet the requirements/guidelines listed below and are able to volunteer, please complete THIS SURVEY to indicate your availability.

Who should volunteer?

If you work in a field that specifically seeks to combat a given global issue (i.e. human rights, climate change, global health, trade, cybersecurity, etc.) or if you have expertise on a specific global issue through academic/field research, we would love to have you come talk to our students about the global issue at hand. We ask that you be able to discuss in detail some, if not all, of the following topics in your presentation: 1) background, origins, and context about the global issue, 2) outline all parties involved and invested in this global issue, 3) describe the goals of your organization and the type of work you do specifically to help solve this issue, 4) the challenges that come from working on/with your global issue, 5) how this global issue affects the local community, 6) how students can get involved, take action, and make an impact, and 7) any other interesting information related to the global issue and your work.

What does a global issues expert volunteer do?

As a global issues expert speaker your role is to help our students better understand the types of global issues that exist in today’s world, specifically by describing the issue at hand, the challenges involved, the solutions that are being proposed and put forth to combat such problems, along with any ways in which individuals like our students might be able to get involved and take action towards solving this issue. You will be speaking to groups of about 15-20 students for 25 minutes at a time. We ask that you prepare a 20-minute presentation/dialogue on the global issue about which you hold expertise. You may use visual and audio aids, such as music, videos, pictures, etc., but the goal is to make the presentation as interactive as possible and to allow for a dialogue between students and speakers. Leave about 5 minutes at the end of your presentation for students to ask any remaining questions. After approximately 25 minutes, students will rotate and you will repeat the presentation to a new group of students. You will ultimately give the presentation to three different groups of students.

What is the time commitment?

You would be expected to be at the event from roughly 10:00a.m.-12:00p.m. on the date(s) that you choose. The events will all take place at Franklin University in Columbus, OH.
