CLAS Director Scott Schwenter presents his research at DISROM 8 Conference in Lisbon
CLAS Director and Professor of Hispanic and Lusophone Linguistics at the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, Dr. Scott Schwenter, presented a paper co-authored with Camila Lívio (UGA) “Cara as an evaluative discourse marker in BP” on June 19th at the International Conference on ‘Discourse Markers in Romance Languages’ (DISROM 8) in Lisbon, Portugal. Dr. Schwenter also presented on June 20th “Espera, peraí, aspetta, attends: Signaling common ground misalignment in Romance," alongside former CLAS assistant director Mark Hoff (Queens College, CUNY).
The conference is one of a series on discourse markers in Romance languages (Madrid, 2010; Buenos Aires, 2011; Campinas, 2012; Heidelberg, 2015; Louvain-la-Neuve, 2017, Bergamo, 2019, Craiova 2022) and aims to build on the previous events, serving as a platform for internationally renowned linguists and young researchers alike to exchange views and ideas and to broaden their research perspectives. In addition to presenting his research at DISROM 8, Dr. Schwenter also used this opportunity to connect with scholars from other institutions, exploring potential future collaborations with the Center for Latin American Studies here at Ohio State.
