Andrew Gantt

Andrew Gantt is a 2021-2022 undergraduate FLAS fellow studying Portuguese.

"I fell in love with Portuguese while studying abroad in Bahia 10 years ago and the passion stuck! Ever since then I’ve been constantly immersed in Brazilian music and literature. The language worked its way into my daily life and really kept my spirits up during some tedious work assignments and difficult moments in my personal life over the years. I’ve learned a lot about Portuguese, specifically in the Brazilian context, and hope to further that specific field of knowledge while also acquainting myself with Portuguese as it is spoken in other parts of the world.

I’ve been working for 8 years at a company that serves the affordable & public housing industries and really love the work we do, but I’ve also always felt an affinity towards academia. I intend to pursue graduate studies in Portuguese/Latin American Studies and Law. I believe the study of language, literature, and culture combined with a solid understanding of legal systems is a potent combination that will help me construct a career that manages to encapsulate my varying interests while also helping to bring about positive transformation in the world."
