Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Ellie Kaiser

Ellie Kaiser is a 2021-2022 graduate FLAS fellow studying Portuguese.

"I have studied Spanish for many years and love learning about the linguistic diversity of the South American continent.  Adding Portuguese to my repertoire will open another door to the cultural richness of the world. Also, I’ve taught many Portuguese-speaking Brazilian students and have been fascinated by the similarities, but more so the differences between their language and Spanish.

I hope to continue research in linguistics, especially in the area of sociophonetics. As a professor, I would be able to further our knowledge of how language and social factors mix in the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking world, and impart this knowledge to a new generation of linguists."
