Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Julie McNally is a 2020-2021 FLAS fellow studying Portuguese.

"I am taking Portuguese because of my previous exposure with taking Spanish language courses.  I thoroughly enjoyed learning the Spanish language and Latin American culture.  Because of the inherent similarities between Spanish and Portuguese, I thought that I might also enjoy taking Portuguese.  Additionally, not as many people study Portuguese and I believe that in studying this language, I will set myself apart from my peers when I apply to graduate school.

I am currently undecided about future career plans, however I do know that I would like to continue my education in some aspect after completing my undergraduate degree at Ohio State.  I plan on using my language skills in either my career field or to benefit my community in some way after graduation."
