The Center for Latin American Studies at Ohio State will hold its second annualusic nd panish in the ndes anguage earning cademy (MÁS ALLÁ) June 11 - 15, 2018. This immersive summer program is open to all high school students who are interseted in learning about Andean culture, language and music. The program accords students the opportunity to perfect their spoken Spanish, learn to play traditional instruments of the Andes, sing in Spanish, Quechua & Aymara, and gain a unique cultural competency through the music they learn to play.
All levels of Spanish proficiency and music experience are welcome. During the summer camp students will gain confidence, fluency, and improve their knowledge of both the Spanish language and Andean culture. Music is a gateway into culture, and through performance of music students can immerse themselves in a culture that will expand their worldview and “stretch their ears” (as we like to say in the OSU Andean Music Ensemble). The participatory nature of Andean Music can support students who are struggling to overcome anxiety or shyness in their learning of the Spanish language. Performance-based learning also allows students who excel to stretch their wings and challenge themselves as well. MÁS ALLÁ welcomes all personalities, abilities, and people.
Any student of high school age is welcome to attend regardless of Spanish proficiency or music ability
